New GEMS Proposal (Most probably to be submitted)

  • When you press the calculator...
  • Proposal for GEMS Module
    CT Group: 10S7F

    Choice of course
The course that 10S7F is proposing for GEMS Module is “Dumpling making”.

    Course description
This dumpling making session will be conducted by one of our classmate’s (Ke Yu He) parents who are experts in dumpling making. All 27 of us (including civics tutor) will be involved in making our own share of dumplings. At the end of the session, we will consume the dumplings for lunch.

    Duration of course
    1 day
    Reasons for choice of course

Although feasting on dumplings is probably familiar to most of us, dumpling making is definitely foreign to all of us. Hence, it will be interesting for the class to learn the techniques of making tasty dumplings, such that we will be able to contribute our skills in future should there be any party/potluck. Since dumpling making is simple and easy to master, everyone should not have difficulties learning how to do so. As such, this choice of activity is in line with the interest of the whole class.
The reason why we decided to learn dumpling making from our classmate’s parents is that no course fee is required, except for the ingredients. Thus, the budget available can be spent wisely. Furthermore, no booking of venue is required, since it will be conducted at Yu He’s house. Therefore, dumpling making activity can be carried out without much difficulties.

What we hope to achieve at the end of the course

After the dumpling making course, we hope to be equipped with a new skill of learning how to prepare our very own dumplings. Needless to say, through the process of learning this skill together as a class, we definitely hope to be able to forge even closer bonds between each and everyone of us.

    Breakdown of budget:

    Ong MurFei

Check the artemis blog for more info!

    Please also remember to
    1. Submit your indemnity form for fac outing tomorrow to me or yingda. (if you submit to yingda let me know so I won't chase you)

Lastly, I think Yan Seng has complained to his green club enough that our CT does not have to compete in the Amazing Race (lol).

    Concert!

  • When you press the calculator...
  • Hi everyone!

This is Jeremy. I've been made CT rep (mr tan walked by and told us during CT session) and my first act as CT rep is Project Echolocation!
Actually I'm just advertising for them. I am in no way affiliated with them.

Project Echolocation is a concert for the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped. The concert involves Blindfolds, and features SG Wonderful (never heard of them, and neither has youtube), freelance soloists and "our own peers".

    Details:
Date: 23 April 2010 (next friday)
    Time: 7.30 pm
    Venue: Hwa Chong College Auditorium
    Ticket price: 10 dollars

In addition, they are also selling a CD that is priced at $10, but you get a $2 discount if you buy a ticket too. The CD features bands such as Fire Away, Samson; The Fire Fight; Exdee; and many more. Songs are exclusively composed for this cause - you won't find them anywhere else!

EDIT: forgot to mention this. The concert is actually an inter-JC collaboration among AJC, ACJC, HCI, IJC and NJC.

Please sms (96700794) or email (quilker@gmail.com) me (or any other contact method eg facebook) by monday if you want in!

    CT Bench Cleanup

  • When you press the calculator...
  • Hi all,

You might have noticed that the boxes around the CT Benches now have labels and are more organised (or you will come morning). Please try to keep to the labeling. There are five boxes and the tray:

    1. A tray for stationery and angel/mortal letters. The class journals are here, along with random pieces of stationery.
    2. A box for painting materials (brushes etc) and some random bottles.
    3. A box with clothes that were lying around, as well as the two pillows. And an iphone pouch.
    4. A box for oversized stuff like a drawing pad, unclaimed GP folders and the Math past paper books.
    5. A box for miscellaneous stuff. The chaptehs are here too.
    6. Empty box.

Please try to keep to this system! I would hate to have to do this all over again. It will also be faster to find what you need.

Lastly, for anyone distributing notes and the like: put it in the tray, with the stationery.

    Thank you,
    A Neat Freak.

    Proposal for GEMS (BBQ)

  • When you press the calculator...
  • Hi 7F. If Mr Tan approves the idea of BBQ, this proposal will be officially submitted.

    Proposal for GEMS Module

    CT Group: 10S7F

    Choice of course
The course that 10S7F is proposing for GEMS Module is “Barbecue (BBQ)”.
    Course description
The whole session will involve the class in barbequing, as well as class bonding activities. Before the actual BBQ session, the class will be involved in sourcing for the ingredients required, which includes raw food and the accessories (eg skewers, charcoal). We will be split up into different groups who are each in charge of certain items. During the BBQ session, the whole class will take turns cooking and tending to the food, giving everyone ample opportunities to be involved.
    Duration of course
1 day (including sourcing for the ingredients)
    Reasons for choice of course
BBQ is a feasible activity that can be conducted, given the amount of budget available. Moreover, since BBQ is largely a hands-on activity, it can be assured that everybody will be able to play an active role throughout the session, therefore ensuring the whole class gains the most out of this module. BBQ also offers us the rare opportunity of cooking meals for our classmates, of which will definitely strengthen bonds and build rapport among us.
Apart from this, BBQ requires a range of skills for it to be conducted successfully. They include sourcing for fresh and desirable ingredients, starting a fire using charcoal and maintaining or adjusting the heat to a suitable temperature, cooking raw food until the right state (not overcooked or undercooked) as well as the ability to marinate or prepare the ingredients correctly.
All these skills can be acquired through BBQ in a fun and engaging way. Most importantly, these skills serve to familiarize us with cooking, an art of lifestyle which is useful for us should we need to prepare meals for ourselves. A common scenario would be when we are studying overseas and wish to prepare our own meals.
What we hope to achieve at the end of the course
After the BBQ session, we hope to be equipped with the skills needed to conduct a successful barbecue and in line with the big picture, gain some exposure to cooking.
Apart from skills acquirement, we hope to be more bonded as a class. Having cooked meals for one another, having enjoyed a meal together, 10S7F will inevitably be like one big family.

    Econs ILP Topics

  • When you press the calculator...
  • Hello everyone!

If anyone has the list of topics, please post on the blog/facebook group for everyone's reference. I dont think it is floating around in cyberspace anymore. But i will try to recover the lost list.

One representative from each group/individual can send me a email with the top 3 topics that you will want to do, in order of preference, with the first one as the group's top choice and the last one as the 3rd most favorable topic.

First come first serve basis. There will be a cap of 2 groups per topic so send me an email early. Please do so before Sunday midnight while i try to find the list of topics.

    from sengpeing

    UPDATE:
thanks to jin jian for notifying me that the ilp topic list is up on smb again. but just in case if it ever disappear again, and for your convenience, i will copy-paste the list of topics here

    Negative externalities x2
    Positive externalities x2
    Public goods x2
    Monopolistic competition x2
    Oligopoly
    Monopoly
    Inflation
    Unemployment x1
    Exchange rate(Foreign Exchange) x1
    Government Budget x2
    Trade Protectionism x2
    International Trade x2

Please send a mail to me soon to confirm which are your topics.(should the deadline be extended to tomorrow?) The number behind each topic indicates how many slots are left for that particular topic. Common sense should tell you that the reason why some topics are slashed out is due to popular demand and thus a shortage has occurred since supply curve is a vertical straight line and demand curve shifts to the right, and not that they are unacceptable choices as topics for your ilp.

Please do bear in mind that when choosing your topic, you should consider the marginal benefit and the opportunity cost involved.

    GEMS and JTS updates II

  • When you press the calculator...
  • HEY 7Fers!~

SOME CHANGES TO GEMS AND JTS!! (actually its a lot of change)..

We realised the ice-skating is VERY expansive cuz since the one in Jurong East is closed down, we'll have to go to the more exp one in Kallang :( and we'll exceed our budget by almost twice the amount!

    Thus...

Do you all mind if we use the BBQ as GEMS instead? We have more.. MEANINGFUL stuff to write in our proposal as well!

And IF situation allows, we can combine JTS with GEMS --> economically wise, less time consuming... MORE FUN!!

Please voice your objections if you have any!

    Thank you!
P.s. very very sorry for the changes! :(
