  • When you press the calculator...
  • Hi everyone. This is Jeremy.
I hope you all enjoyed STJ as much as I did (how was K Box?)
And for those of you who missed out... *sigh*....

Anyway, Dr Hon posted this message about Efficiency on EMB about how college students are slower than high school students. And he "requests all CT Reps pass this message to their classmates. I hope my next message will be read within 24 hours."

Yes I know I'm not the CT Rep but the point is to go read the message. Or just click the link and go back.

    Class Fund :P

  • When you press the calculator...
  • Hello! :)

This is about our class fund again. Our class fund still has money, but our Biology and Physics funds are running a little low... I'm sure all of you have realised that stacks of notes are coming in, and sadly we have to pay for all those notes ): I think I'll collect $20 this time so that everyone doesn't need to keep paying for class fund :) $10 to the class fund, and another $10 to either bio or physics fund. The class fund doesn't really need these money urgently, but just prepare $20 and pass it to me when you have the money. :) Thanks! :D And enjoy the rest of the holidays!

    What happened on 11th March

  • When you press the calculator...
  • Here's an update for today.

For Maths (Poisson), Mrs Koh told us our results and went through the test. We also went through (I think) all of Tutorial 1B.

For Maths (Ptolemy), we went through all of tutorial 1B, have not received our test paper (but can be checked on isp), and chit chat for the whole lesson lol.

For Maths (Hyper-Boliao), we went through Tutorial 1B up to Q8. Test papers will be returned tomorrow.

In GP there was a lot of things going on. We got the 1st March issue of Newsweek, as well as a worksheet for it. We read one of the articles and tried to come up with a thesis statement for it. Then Mr Tan gave us a new set of notes on pros/cons of stuff like human rights, democracy. After that we got the 'destinations' booklet from ECG and read it.

We finished the blue lecture notes in Economics.

During Physics we were given practicals done by dummy students and told to mark them based on a checklist. This was supposed to help us do our own practicals. Mr. Chua also gave us a practical to do (data given) for holidays.

Someone add Bio and what happened in the other maths class.

    What happened on 10th March

  • When you press the calculator...
  • Since Meng Ying asked, I shall give a brief run-through of what happened today (wednesday).

We didn't have assembly because of the rain this morning. Instead some tune was played over the intercom, presumably to tell us assembly was cancelled.

During physics tutorial, Mr. Chua went through Static Equilibrium: how to find an unknown force if the object is at static equilibrium.

During Chem we went through the rest of Atomic Structure, including the Review Questions.
Mrs. Lim (the lecturer) said she would upload the answers for the add. exercises on SMB or ISP or something.

During GP we were told our civilization menu had to look 'professional' like mcdonalds' tray liner. And we have to hand in after Holidays. We also made up characters that we then acted out -> we tried to give their views on the questions for GP essay test. Mr Tan asked us to hand in the Logos salesman worksheet thing. We also got our photos.

Economics with Mr. How was basically: finish Tutorial 3 (first tutorial stack) + briefing on ILP + briefing on Class Participation + a little about the essay on 911.

We also got new notes on Economics (Yellow title page) and a new tutorial for economics. New econ tutorial has an essay question on the back about 911, which is what Mr. How talked about.

And the PW Lecture turned out to be the PW skills lecture we attended earlier.

Someone add what happened in Bio.

EDIT: For Biology, we spent our time going through the Cell Membrane Worksheet MCQs, both the Cell Membrane Essays & prodding Mr Chan about the SURPRISE on FRIDAY.
p.s. Mr Chan also said that he will not print out essay answers for us if not all handed up, so we had to copy painstakingly by hand... Please hand in lah...
    - Jin Jian (help edit if I left something out.)

Speech by Oracle CEO to yale graduates

  • When you press the calculator...
  • HEY EVERYONE!!~~~

Yeap. I came across this VERY VERY interesting speech the other day and i thought it will be very meaningful to share with everyone!!

    READ ON IF YOU...
    1. Want a good laugh... at yourself
    2. Is too bored and wants sth to ponder about...

The speech by Oracle CEO to yale graduates:

"Graduates of Yale University, I apologize if you have endured this type of prologue before, but I want you to do something for me. Please, take a good look around you. Look at the classmate on your left. Look at the classmate on your right. Now, consider this: five years from now, 10 years from now, even 30 thirty years from now, odds are the person on your left is going to be a loser. The person on your right, meanwhile, will also be a loser. And you, in the middle? What can you expect? Loser. Loserhood. Loser Cum Laude.

"In fact, as I look out before me today, I don't see a thousand hopes for a bright tomorrow. I don't see a thousand future leaders in a thousand industries. I see a thousand losers.

"You're upset. That's understandable. After all, how can I, Lawrence 'Larry' Ellison, college dropout, have the audacity to spout such heresy to the graduating class of one of the nation's most prestigious institutions? I'll tell you why. Because I, Lawrence "Larry" Ellison, second richest man on the planet, am a college dropout, and you are not.

"Because Bill Gates, richest man on the planet -- for now, anyway -- is a college dropout, and you are not.

"Because Paul Allen, the third richest man on the planet, dropped out of college, and you did not.

"And for good measure, because Michael Dell, No. 9 on the list and moving up fast, is a college dropout, and you, yet again, are not.

"Hmm... you're very upset. That's understandable. So let me stroke your egos for a moment by pointing out, quite sincerely, that your diplomas were not attained in vain. Most of you, I imagine, have spent four to five years here, and in many ways what you've learned and endured will serve you well in the years ahead. You've established good work habits. You've established a network of people that will help you down the road. And you've established what will be lifelong relationships with the word 'therapy.' All that of is good. For in truth, you will need that network. You will need those strong work habits. You will need that therapy.

"You will need them because you didn't drop out, and so you will never be among the richest people in the world. Oh sure, you may, perhaps, work your way up to No. 10 or No. 11, like Steve Ballmer. But then, I don't have to tell you who he really works for, do I? And for the record, he dropped out of grad school. Bit of a late bloomer.

"Finally, I realize that many of you, and hopefully by now most of you, are wondering, 'Is there anything I can do? Is there any hope for me at all?' Actually, no. It's too late. You've absorbed too much, think you know too much. You're not 19 anymore. You have a built-in cap, and I'm not referring to the mortar boards on your heads.

"Hmm... you're really very upset. That's understandable. So perhaps this would be a good time to bring up the silver lining. Not for you, Class of '00. You are a write-off, so I'll let you slink off to your pathetic $200,000-a-year jobs, where your checks will be signed by former classmates who dropped out two years ago.

"Instead, I want to give hope to any underclassmen here today. I say to you, and I can't stress this enough: leave. Pack your things and your ideas and don't come back. Drop out. Start up.

"For I can tell you that a cap and gown will keep you down just as suredly as these security guards dragging me off this stage are keeping me dow..."

YEAP THAT's ALL for today FOLKS!!!
